If this laptop could talk, it would be hurling invectives at me right now. I've changed a lot in its 3-year-old system and it probably is tired by now. I always say, it's time to replace it but I just can't.
I thought the recent upgrade to Windows 7 have officially put an end to my broadband modem errors. Unfortunately, I was wrong. A couple of weeks ago, I tried to connect through Smart Bro and it just wouldn't. There was no error message this time - just a pop-up window that keeps saying 'Connecting' but nothing happens after that.
I initially thought another reformatting session would resolve it but my tech support/friend was against it. Then I realized that all this problem started when I installed some updates for Win 7. He suggested that I do a restore from the time I did the installation and see if that would work. Lo and behold, it did. So I'm never going to install that one update or if I accidentally do, I know what to do next.
In the middle of the Smart Bro crisis, I went to the mall and made an impulse purchase: a Sun Broadband modem. I bought it because I don't read a lot of negative blog posts online about their service (at least not as much as Globe Tattoo). I just tried connecting today and I have to say it's pretty stable. I've been connected for three hours now and I haven't experienced any interruptions.
Speed is forgivable - I have yet to reach their maximum 3 mbps limit. It's still better than Smart Bro because I don't jump from 0Kbps to 50 to 115 to 800 to 1.89Mbps then slide back to 0. There would be times when I would disconnect just to get a better connection. The result: it keeps 'churning' my load while I have not gone through any web page successfully. What a waste.

As of now, Sun has been more stable. Plus, it's cheap! I get unlimited internet for only 50 Pesos. I first thought that's insane. The Sun CSR explained that the clock starts at the time you obtain a connection. This means if you get connected at 3PM, you may connect through the internet and enjoy unlimited surfing until 3PM the next day.
I just hope this thing still has signal once the Sun goes down. I know it's a joke but yeah it did happen to me in the past when I still had a Sun prepaid Sim.
